Any way to make God Rays with spotlight?
Any other useful things we can do with lights?

I am trying to recreate this type of effect with a spotlight behind my own character.
I cannot figure out a way to get this effect in my render without adding it in After Effects.
Is there a way?
I tries changing some spotlight settings that should give the effect, but none of them do it with centileo.

I found a way to cheat it using a cone object with emission node applied to the material and pattern node connected to the Alpha channel.

How does it look visually? Actually this feature is not supported natively, so we have to integrate a whole volumetric support

it looks pretty ok. The Alpha makes it dimmer and the pattern scatters it into line patterns. I just have the cone without the cap and the shape it made very wide, so it looks similar enough for the effect.

This is what is looks like.
The one with visible lines is with the same cone duplicated and rotated to give more rays.
The other is just one cone. The pattern node would only give me reliably 4 rays.

Ha-ha! Interesting finding, thanks for sharing the idea! I undestand how it works with some very slight emission power on the cone
