Hi Hao! It's pretty simple to do if we exploit the procedural UVW mapping, see example and scene here


Basically, you can create the Flat projection in Maerial tag (formelly it was called Texture Tag). You may adjust the UVW gizmo in texture cinema 4d layout. In our case I have stretched the gizmo of material tag by 200cm to align with cylinder borders. Then we make a UVW Projection node, it can take this assignment projection in default mode (called texture tag). Otherwise you can rebuild other individual projecton within the node using XYZ, cubic or flat, etc. Using the Shuffle node we move the G channel of UVWProjection to the R position because Gradient Ramp.InputMap understands only R channel. Then we make the gradient color layout based on the input texture values. The scene example is attached
