The speed of the new version is significantly improved

my c4d 2023 locks up completely with ipr open and auto update on and I change multiple material's node properties too many times in a short time.

I was going from several material node editors quickly to change my bitmap gamma from 2.2 to 1.0 for my roughness node channels.
this caused my whole c4d to lockup even though task manager showed it was still responsive but nothing could be selected or changed or updated.

Is caching necessary for dynamics to show in render? Mine don't.

Ok, I just remembered I have motion blur enabled in all my scenes now.

And of course I left for work earlier and forgot to cache my scene again after increasing the timeline and leaving it to render overnight.
Is caching necessary for dynamics to show in render? Mine don't.

I made a scene with a dynamic object attached to a motor so it spins.
It works in the viewport, but when I rendered the object doesn't spin at all.
Do I need to cache for it to render?

EDIT:
I cached the dynamics tags and it does spin now in render.
So all dynamics need to be cached to render properly?
Does this also apply to cloth?

I also noticed that scratches now can have values increased above 1 for all values except the density. Very nice.
I guess that is new since s24.
I dont suppose there could be an extra setting to change scratch length value to make them shorther without having to scale the whole thing down?

is there a way to have a projection and transform nodes have locked scale for x y z to all be changed together instead of individually? Maybe a check box to enable?
I am usually changing all three to the same value.

it would also be nice if gradient could have a contrast setting so colour correction isn't always necessary as well.

May you please send me a minimum example of the scene for investigating in 2023 c4d?
I couldn't make it happen again. Might have been a rare bug based on how I was modeling my object.

I am just learning how useful the distortion node is with the scratches node.
Very cool.

It would be interesting to see an example. And I think if you click "reload scene" button in IPR you can make the same trick without re-openning the window.
I tried but even that wouldn't work.
it was very strange because some objects with the exact same material would change and some would not.

I don't know if it is an issue with c4d or centileo, but in 2023 some objects do not update in the ipr properly until I close it and open it again. I just noticed it when working with window plane objects I have cloth surface applied to, and the material is a transmission with roughness imperfection applied.
when I move the node from roughness to colour to see the effect and move it back the material changes to a solid white without transmission, and it stays like that until I reload the ipr.

The issue with crash is fixed. Btw it happened when small enough object is used, e.g. a plane or cube. Just need to re-download and re-install the plugin.

Dirt node is still not fixed, correct?
Not yet
should I get the update too? Was this an issue with 2023 as well or just s26?
one of my materials became broken when moving the scene into 0.65

I removed the layer node and that seems to have fixed it.

I also noticed many of my bitmap images have lost the file locations and I have to find them again so they work.
I don't know if it is an issue with using the single folder location for my texture cache the same as for 0.644. But it is random which texture locations are wrong, except some of my scenes are nearly all missing and need to be located again.
(CORRECTION/EDIT: I think it has to do with moving my c4d file location to a new subfolder. When I move it back to the original folder the textures are all found like they should be.)

my 3080 Ti seems to render much faster as well in 0.65
MUCH faster.
this same scene above 32 iterations rendered the same time in full as 0.644 could do just 15% of the render in the same time.
So close to 5x faster :D

one of my materials became broken when moving the scene into 0.65

The first image is what it looks like in 0.65 (ignore the ship in the foreground, the bitmap location was lost somehow and I fixed it), but the same scene in the old version has the mountain material.
But the mountain material cannot be loaded in 0.65.
These are the nodes. It is a bit more complicated than it needed to be, and I may fix it, but can you see any reason it would do this? Maybe one of the nodes I used broke the material when transferring into the new version, or it could be moving it from s24 to 2023?
How to make emissive object invisible to camera completely?

Yes, the scratches can be used as mask, they output only greyscale scratches on top of white background. But these grey values are very dim, and you may not really see the effect in a combination with mix material. So, probably a color correct node can help increasing the contrast of scratches but I feel I can improve the scratches node to produce more contrast values and output grey gradient scratches (as is now), colored scratches and pure black/white mask. For example this is working for the flakes node and it's working perfectly as a mask of multi material, and very usefull to produce the car paint flakes.

Btw, download the 0.65 release, it's done, and it's much faster, and the most previously discussed bugs have also fixed

yes thanks.
I have been checking every day and saw it right after you posted it.
I can't wait to try it and use 2023 to render my new project I have been building scenes for.

I really like the scratches node, so I will see how colour correct helps.

I am curious if you have tried rendering pyro with the newest update, or if this is not possible with centileo?
I do not yet have the newest update that has pyro, so I am not sure if it is worth getting it.

And with 2023 now I can now use the curvature mode for vertex maps to get 'dirt' shader masks until the dirt node is fixed.

very happy today

Oh yes, this is currently not working for regular objects with emission material. This hidding from camera works only for regular light sources (Area, Omni, Spot). Btw, if you create the omni light source and increase the radius using CentiLeo tag then it will be a sphere and you can hide it with the same property control in the tag.
I should fix it for emission material for sure, that's also needed for some archviz lighting setups.

nice.
I was hoping to use emission object so that I could fake a flamethrower burst to produce light by sculpting the object to stretch out. But I suppose my object doesn't need to be invisible since I will be compositing a flame in After Effects.

by the way,
Is there any way to use the scratches node as a mask?
I tried to use it to mix two materials but it wasn't masking out the second one inside the scratches.
When I solo the one that should be inside the scratch and make it a bright colour I can just barely see it but not enough for the material to show when mixed.
How to make emissive object invisible to camera completely?

I made the emission nodes both 0 for camera, but the object still appears as a black object instead of being invisible.
Is there something to change to make this happen?
Any way to make God Rays with spotlight?, Any other useful things we can do with lights?

This is what is looks like.
The one with visible lines is with the same cone duplicated and rotated to give more rays.
The other is just one cone. The pattern node would only give me reliably 4 rays.

How does it look visually? Actually this feature is not supported natively, so we have to integrate a whole volumetric support
it looks pretty ok. The Alpha makes it dimmer and the pattern scatters it into line patterns. I just have the cone without the cap and the shape it made very wide, so it looks similar enough for the effect.

I found a way to cheat it using a cone object with emission node applied to the material and pattern node connected to the Alpha channel.
Trembling shadows

What is the subdivision of the object like?
Is it low poly?
Try adding subdivisions with the Subdivision Surface generator or using cloth surface if you already have that applied.

this is something I've had issues with before

I am trying to recreate this type of effect with a spotlight behind my own character.
I cannot figure out a way to get this effect in my render without adding it in After Effects.
Is there a way?
I tries changing some spotlight settings that should give the effect, but none of them do it with centileo.

isn't AO just included in the lighting for centileo? I thought it was baked in somehow.
How to use and how to set a project from scratch

The light flickering like that is an issue with the geometry having sharp edges or low polygon count.
Try adding a subdivision surface or subdividing the polygons on that liquid object and see if that fixes it.

Also, if you wish to try Hot4D ocean simulator deformer there is a free version you can get.
I have it working for s24 and s26. If you want I could try uploading my s26 to the cloud and give you it to try. It creates realistic ocean waves as a deformer for objects.
